چکیده

A new homogenization approach for the simulation of multi-phase flows in heterogeneous porous media is presented. It based on lattice Boltzmann method and combines grayscale with multi-component Shan-Chen method. Thus, it mimics fluid-fluid solid-fluid interactions also within pores that are smaller than numerical discretization. The model successfully tested a broad variety single- two-phase flow problems. Additionally, its application to multi-scale problems demonstrated using electrolyte filling process realistic 3D lithium-ion battery electrode microstructures as an example. shows advantages over comparable methods from literature. interfacial tension wetting conditions independent not affected by homogenization. Moreover, all physical properties studied here continuous even across interfaces media. consistent original accurate, efficient, easy implement, can be applied many research fields, especially where fluid occurs

Lattice Boltzmann model for incompressible flows through porous media.

In this paper a lattice Boltzmann model is proposed for isothermal incompressible flow in porous media. The key point is to include the porosity into the equilibrium distribution, and add a force term to the evolution equation to account for the linear and nonlinear drag forces of the medium (the Darcy's term and the Forcheimer's term). Through the Chapman-Enskog procedure, the generalized Navi...

A Lattice Boltzmann Model for Multi-phase Fluid Flows

We develop a lattice Boltzmann equation method for simulating multi-phase immiscible fluid flows with variation of density and viscosity, based on the model proposed by Gunstensen et al[9] for two-component immiscible fluids. The numerical measurements of surface tension and viscosity agree well with theoretical predictions. Several basic numerical tests, including spinodal decomposition, two-p...

Lattice-Boltzmann simulation of two-phase flow in porous media

[1] We simulate two-fluid-phase flow at the pore scale using a lattice Boltzmann (LB) approach. Using a parallel processing version of the Shan-Chen model that we developed, we simulate a set of ideal two-fluid systems and a model two-fluid-phase porous medium system comprised of a synthetic packing with a relatively uniform distribution of spheres. We use the set of ideal two-phase systems to ...

Two-phase flows involving capillary barriers in heterogeneous porous media

We consider a simplified model of a two-phase flow through a heterogeneous porous medium, in which the convection is neglected. This leads to a nonlinear degenerate parabolic problem in a domain shared in an arbitrary finite number of homogeneous porous media. We introduce a new way to connect capillary pressures on the interfaces between the homogeneous domains, which leads to a general notion...

Sharp Interface Limit of a Homogenized Phase Field Model for Phase Transitions in Porous Media

A homogenized phase field model for phase transitions in porous media is considered. By making use of the method of formal asymptotic expansion with respect to the interface thickness, a sharp interface limit problem is derived. This limit problem turns out to be similar to the classical Stefan problem with surface tension and kinetic undercooling.
